There’s only one Original Slinky Brand and this is a giant Slinky! Celebrate 75 years of wiggly-jiggly fun with Slinky! Generations of children and adults have loved playing with Slinky. This classic metal spring toy walks downstairs, alone or in pairs, and makes a slink-ity sound. First invented by mechanical engineer Richard James in 1943 during an experiment with tension coils. James accidentally dropped a spring on the floor and watched as it began to “walk.” Two years later, he introduced his walking spring toy in Gimbels Department Store during Christmas, and the Slinky immediately sold out. Since its debut, over 300 million Slinkys have been sold worldwide. In 2000, this classic toy was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Made 75 years ago, Slinky continues to be a favorite toy of children and adults all over the world. Slinky is fun for a girl or a boy and makes an ideal gift, stocking stuffer, prize, or present. Everyone loves a Slinky! Ages 5+

Didn't last very long before becoming bentA bit expensive for this old fashion toy, but I am not using as a toy, but rather as a snake deterant from my bird house that are on poles. Working great so far.Worked great where the regular sized slinky would not fit on the bird feeder pole. Drives the squirrels crazy as they can't climb the pole, yet doesn't hurt them either. I guess some people play with the Slinky, but I enjoy watching the squirrels with it.I think when these were invented stairs were narrower. It wouldn’t go down ours. My son still had a great time. But it didn’t last very long before he bent it.No tiene fina terminación aunque cumple, años atrás tuve unos de menor tamaño y mucho mejor calidad.Slinky somersaulted down tile stairs with only a little push to get it started. Amused my 7 year-old grandson for a short time. This slinky much heavier than others I have seen.I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my son as I had one when I was a kid. As soon as I received it, I opened it to check for any damage. Well, the unit appeared to be used or damaged. Some of the coils have gaps and the alignment of the coils appear to be off on some. I remember Slinkys being better made when I was a kid. However, looking at the ad photo closely, the unit I received does look like the one in the ad.I don't care if this is made by the same company, has "original" stamped all over the box, or "made in America." This is NOT the "original" slinky. That's the evaluation of 4 of us who are old enough to remember playing with the REAL "original Slinky" when we were kids... the original Slinky was darker, the result of a different kind of steel. It was also "softer" and "smoother" in terms of the overall tension and ease of the links moving in your hands back and forth, and this translated into it easily being able to propel itself down stairs for example. You can just "feel" the difference with this unit. The "Giant" is way bigger than the original Slinky, and the "regular" (which I also bought") is smaller. Both are "stiffer" and have a different kind of steel that has a higher tension and doesn't easily roll itself back onto itself. Don't even bother with the "junior" Slinky's made by the same company. Those are only good for perhaps throwing at something... Very disappointing.A few weeks before Christmas, my partner and I were discussing the toys we wanted so much as kids, but never got. My partner lamented the fact that he never got a Slinky, he thought that growing up in a bungalow, a Slinky wouldn’t have much fun anyway, though he still would have liked one. We always buy each other a little novelty gift for under the tree, to go with the main gift. So what better surprise to get him but an original Slinky. Well, the main gift never really ‘got a look in’ over the holiday period. It came in a nice box, and arrived quickly. I think I can hear the sound of a Slinky ‘on the move’ again.I put the post of a bird table through the middle of the spring. When a squirrel tries to climb the post, the spring stretches and dumps him harmlessly onto the grass. Original idea learned from Warwickshire Wildlife trust.Purchased this to use as a squirrel deterrent on the bird feeder. It didn't work but was great fun and worth every penny watching the squirrel work out a way to plunder the bird seed. His antics were hilarious, clever little chap!As for its original use, we did have several goes down the stairs with it , Just for old times sake! It worked perfectly every time.My son was given a tiny slinky for his birthday and was unsure what it did, so I ordered him the big one to show him how it can go down the stairs , he was completely mesmerised by it. Brought back some great childhood memories for me.My 5 year old loves it. Nice to watch him laugh as it goes down the stairs .
